Bishop Fleming announced as title sponsor for Cornwall's Runway Runaround 10k

Top 30 advisory firm, Bishop Fleming is set to work in partnership with Cornwall Air Ambulance as the official title sponsor for their annual 10k run.

The Runway Runaround 10k will take place on 3rd November at Newquay Airport, on the runway.

The firm, which delivers audit, accounting, tax and advisory services, are supporting one of the largest, unique fundraising events in Cornwall as part of their centenary celebrations.

Bishop Fleming has committed to raise £100,000 throughout the year to mark its milestone. The money raised will be split across several regional charities, supported by its seven offices.

The Runway Runaround is a fantastic opportunity for the firm to continue its centenary fundraising campaign, whilst binding the relationship between staff, clients and the community.

The 10k run will see runners set off just after the early morning Heathrow flight has departed, they will then run past the Cornwall Air Ambulance helipad and return ‘landside’ before the next flight arrives, later in the day.

The firm has been in partnership with Cornwall Air Ambulance for over two years, and last year raised £6,761 for the charity by taking part in a range of activities from quiz nights and sponsorship, to staff members taking on events such as the Three Peaks Challenge.

Its centenary celebrations have seen the firm become an official gold partner of the Cornwall Air Ambulance New Heli Appeal, which aims to bring a new air ambulance helicopter to Cornwall by 1st April 2020.

Two Bishop Fleming Truro staff members have recently raised over £2,000 for Cornwall Air Ambulance after completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge over the May bank holiday.

Staff and clients alike will participate in the 10k run to boost their fundraising pot.

Alison Oliver, partner at Bishop Fleming said: “We are delighted to be title sponsor of this year’s Cornwall Air Ambulance Runway Runaround in our centenary year. It was a great event in 2018, with this year set to be bigger and better than ever before.

“We aim to bring a large corporate team to the event to help raise a significant amount towards the new helicopter for 2020.

“It is a pleasure to raise money for such a worthwhile and vital cause across our county and we look forward to supporting them with this unique event.”

Sarah Walker, Events and Challenges Fundraising Officer at Cornwall Air Ambulance said: “We are delighted to have Bishop Fleming sponsor the Runway Runaround, it’s a fantastic event and we already have lots of people signed up to take part. The company has been a fantastic partner to the charity, everyone at all levels have got involved with fundraising, so we can’t thank them enough for their continued support.”

A total of £2.5million is needed to be raised in order to bring a bigger and faster air ambulance helicopter to Cornwall. The crew are called to some of the most critical and life-threatening cases in Cornwall, flying over 700 missions every year.

The charity doesn’t receive any government funding and relies solely on donations from people and firms like Bishop Fleming to keep flying and saving lives.

Runners can sign up for the run on the Cornwall Air Ambulance website and there is also an early bird registration available until 31st May at a discounted price. Visit www.cornwallairambulance.org for more details.
