Italian job for St Austell Printing Company

The managing director and bindery manager of a Cornish printing firm have returned from Italy after completing their very own Italian Job.

But instead of gold bullion, the duo came back with new printing equipment to help their business grow even more.

St Austell Printing Company’s (SAPC) Peter Moody and Anthony ‘Tux’ Tucker spent a week in Pianezza on the outskirts on Turin – where the Michael Caine classic was filmed – on a fact-funding mission.

They visited Italian print machine manufacturer, Pettrato, to research new bindery machines, and were also hosted in the family home during their stay.

SAPC’s managing director, Peter Moody, said: “Tux is like a great chef who likes to go out and test all the ingredients before deciding to use them in his restaurant.

“The Pettrato family were really impressed with his knowledge, and the fact that he took the time to visit the factory and test the machines before we decided to buy them.

“It’s something that is very rare in the printing industry, and I believe really sets us apart.”

Following the trip the print company, which moved into the new £6.2m St Austell Business Park in March 2013, has installed three new machines.

The company has invested in excess of £140k in two new machines for its bindery department, and a large format colour machine in the digital department.

Moody added: “The bindery machines will allow us to offer new options for custom finishes and increase our greetings card trade.

“And the large format colour machine will support our services to architects and the construction trade for colour plans, as well as offering other options for large format posters.”
