Wacky Welly Wall

Wacky Welly Wall

We're giving traditional plant pots the boot and creating a Wacky Welly Wall instead for this year’s St Austell in Bloom celebration.

The wellies will be planted with brightly coloured flowers and strung from the railings above Wilkinson, which can be seen from street level as you approach the centre.

On Easter Saturday (19 April), we're inviting local children to get involved with the Wacky Welly Wall by planting their own wellies with help from the Eden Project team and volunteers from local charity People and Gardens.

St Austell in Bloom is a town-wide BID initiative, to celebrate spring and summer in the St Austell. The BID will be using buckets and watering cans instead of traditional hanging baskets, and will be inviting all members of the local community to get involved.

White River Place Centre Manager Richard Hurst said: “The wacky welly wall is our way of joining in with the St Austell in Bloom initiative, in a fun, inclusive way. We’ll be able to keep adding to the wall throughout spring and summer and anyone can get involved – all you need is an old boot and we’ll help with the rest! On Easter Saturday children can come and join in the planting with the Eden team, and there will be further planting sessions taking place over the next few weeks.”

The Eden Project is supporting the White River Welly Wall by planting the boots at its nursery, and is also helping with the buckets and watering cans which will hang around the town.

People and Gardens is a charity supported by the Eden Project which offers a unique therapy and support programme run by and for people whose lives have been affected by disability.
